Pilates vs. the Gym in Miami, FL: Which Is Right for You?

Sölt Fitness & Medspa · June 9, 2026 · Getting Started

If you’re trying to decide between a Pilates studio and a traditional gym in Miami, you’re asking the wrong either/or question — and that’s okay, most people do. The real question is what kind of training actually fits your goals, your schedule, and how you like to move. At Sölt Fitness & Medspa, we built a studio that brings Reformer Pilates, strength and conditioning, personal training, and recovery together under one roof in the Design District, so members don’t have to pick a lane.

What a Pilates studio does well

Reformer Pilates is coached, controlled, and low-impact by design. Sessions at Sölt run 45 minutes and focus on core strength, posture, mobility, and control — the kind of foundational work that makes everything else, from lifting to running to daily life, feel more stable. Because it’s coached and scalable, it’s a format that works whether you’re brand new to structured exercise or you’re a seasoned athlete looking for smarter, more controlled movement.

What a Pilates studio like Sölt typically won’t give you on its own is heavy strength training or high-output conditioning — which is exactly where the rest of our schedule comes in.

What a traditional gym does well

A traditional gym setup is usually built around open floor access, equipment variety, and the ability to train at your own pace without a set class time. That flexibility is valuable, especially if your schedule changes week to week. At Sölt, our small-group strength and conditioning formats — including our signature FORTIFY and FORGE sessions — bring that same strength focus into a 50-minute coached format, and members with a membership also have daily access to the gym floor itself.

Why community matters more than the format

The honest difference most people feel isn’t Pilates versus gym — it’s crowded versus private. A lot of people quietly drop a gym membership not because the equipment was wrong, but because the environment never felt like theirs. Sölt is intentionally private and uncrowded, built on the idea that you’re not just a number — everyone knows your name here. That’s a community difference, not a workout-format difference, and it’s often the bigger reason a routine actually sticks.

A weekly schedule that blends both

At Sölt, a typical week includes Reformer Pilates, express formats like Clarity and GLOW30, and strength-focused sessions like FORTIFY and FORGE — all on the same weekly schedule. Members on our Elite+ or Signature plans get class access plus recovery services like red light therapy, the massage chair, and cryotherapy; our Fitness Fundamentals tier is built around class access and daily open gym use. You can see the exact class list on our Schedule page, and a member of our team can walk you through membership options.

So which one is right for you?

If you want structured, coached, low-impact work that builds control and posture, start with Reformer Pilates. If you want to build strength and conditioning in a small-group setting, our FORTIFY and FORGE formats are built for that. If you’re not sure, that’s exactly what a private consultation is for — we’ll talk through your goals and build a plan that pulls from whichever formats actually fit, rather than asking you to choose one identity and stick to it.
